Causes of Tire Tread Wear

Depending on the tread wear patterns, they will represent a specific issue with your car in the Huntington area:

  • Inner & Outer Tread Wear (“Toe Wear” or “Camber Wear”) – If you see excess wear on the inner or outer part of the tire, then it’s most likely tire misalignment.
  • Center Wear – Your tire is probably overinflated. Consult with your owner’s manual for the correct PSI.
  • Edge Wear – Underinflation is most likely the issue here.
  • Cupping Wear – A diagonal scalloping of the tire signifies a serious issue with the suspension system.Schedule a service appointment right away to get your car checked out!
  • Patchy Wear – Is the tread wear on your tires showing up in patches? Then, they’re likely out of balance and you’ll need to see a mechanic.

Tips for Long-Life Tires

The key on how to make your tires last longer is by keeping up with your regular maintenance schedule

  • Check Your Tire Pressure Every Month – Tires can lose up to a pound per square inch of air pressure every month. Use your Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) to check it. In the winter, they could lose more pressure while in the summer, they will gain more pressure.
  • Rotate Your Tires Every 5,000 Miles – Tires don’t wear evenly, so you will need to rotate them to make sure you can use the whole set for as long as possible. Check your owner’s manual for an accurate mileage for your VW tires according to your model.
  • Get Your Tires Balanced – Keeping them balanced will help them wear evenly as well.
  • Check the Vehicle Alignment Twice Per Year – Similarly, you will need to ensure your car is aligned properly, your Volkswagen tires won’t wear out as fast.

When you take care of your wheels and avoid wear and tear, you can enjoy long-life tires on the Plainview roads!
