Top 5 Things to Do on Long Island This Summer

Wine Glasses on a Wooden Barrel

Platinum Volkswagen is proud to be a local guide to the Long Island area, and in the past, we’ve helped our friends and neighbors explore the area’s best fall events and 4th of July celebrations. Today, we’re bringing you a list of the top five things to do in Long Island this Summer! Once you’ve checked out these timeless activities and well-known regional attractions, you’ll want to visit again and again.

Go On a Wine Tour

Suffolk County is home to a wide variety of visitor-friendly farms, and with so many options, it’s easy to find a place to bring friends or family for a day spent outside. Although you might first think of California when you hear the words “wine tour,” you can enjoy an unforgettable day right here on one of the Long Island wineries. For a guided, group-based tour, we recommend the North Fork Wine Wagon.

Enjoy an Outdoor Concert

If you’re a regular concert-goer, you might associate the experience with crowded, dimly-lit halls and sore eardrums. However, for the residents of Long Island, summer is a time of relaxing outdoor concerts at any number of local gardens and venues. Spend a day at the Old Westbury Gardens and enjoy one of their renowned Picnic Pops Concerts. Here, you could also pick up a new skill by practicing tai chi or yoga on a sunny day.

Visit a Museum

When summertime finally arrives, we’d understand if you wanted to spend every day outside. However, when the going gets tough, there’s no better way to beat the heat than with a day at the museum! Visitors of all ages have great things to say about the Long Island Children’s Museum. Those with a taste for the finer things will be hard-pressed to pass over the Nassau County Museum of Art and the Heckscher Museum of Art.

Enjoy Dinner on the Water

A day spent on Long Island is best followed up with drinks and dinner near the waterfront! You’ll have a nearly-unlimited list of options when you’re searching for waterfront restaurants near Island Park, Bayville, and beyond. Some of our favorite spots are the Jordan Lobster Farms and Walls Wharf.

Spend a Night Under the Stars

Folks from all over the area come to Long Island during the summertime, and many plan their stays at campgrounds that are close to the beach! One of the most popular destinations is the Smith Point County Park campground, but for something more private, you could also check out the Watch Hill Marina. Those who love to hike will also appreciate the 600-acre Wildwood State Park Campground.
